Featured Revolve Rider: 31 Days of Sweat Finalist, Brianna

Meet Brianna, one of our fiercest competitors in last month’s 31 Days of Sweat Challenge. We were so impressed with Brianna’s whopping 468 points at the end of the month, so we asked her to share her secrets on how she kept her head in the game and stayed motivated.Image
1. When you learned about our 31 Days of Sweat Challenge, what made you excited to participate? What were your personal goals for the month of May?

I am always up for a challenge so when I found out Revolve was doing this May challenge with awesome prizes I figured this was a great way to step up to another fitness challenge with some incentive. My goal throughout this month’s challenge was to go to class every single day I was in town for the month (sometimes even 2!) and it was not easy but totally worth it!

 2. What kept you motivated day after day?

I am a very competitive person especially when it comes to fitness, so this was a challenge against others as well as a challenge against myself. I wanted to see how many classes I could go to when I had the time without killing myself. Also, the Top 2 riders in NYC kept me motivated since they were going to 3 classes in one day sometimes! Definitely makes you want to push yourself harder. Also, the instructors have so much energy and play great music which made me excited to keep going back for more.

 3.  How did 31 Days change your relationship with Revolve? With your health/fitness/working out? Did you learn anything new about yourself or the Revolve community during the challenge?

The challenge really made me develop a relationship with the Revolve staff, the amazing instructors and the participants in the challenge. It built a sense of community which is always nice to have and Revolve became a second home.

This challenge phased out my other workouts because I decided to cycle as much as possible in the month but my endurance and my energy sky rocketed throughout this month which really felt great and made me want to come back for more the next day.

4. What physical/mental/emotional outcomes did you notice after participating in the challenge?

I felt stronger mentally, physically, and emotionally. I was energized and felt great and wished the challenge wasn’t over. I miss going to multiple classes throughout the week – it was a lot of fun and I look forward to the next challenge!

5. How will you continue to sweat hard?

This month I decided to bounce around to a bunch of boutique fitness studios in Manhattan and try them out to see what they are all about. Last week, I went to 5 different studios. It’s great cross-training! I am also planning on going to a lot of the free fitness classes held outside for the summer – there are a ton!

6. What tips do you have for other people facing down challenges in and out of the studio?

I have an extreme passion for health and fitness.

I created a blog called B FIT FEEL FAB to provide insight into living and leading a healthy lifestyle and also, to challenge and motivate my followers to get out of their comfort zone and have fun while sweating and moving their bodies! Every month I challenge my followers in some way to be healthier and live a happier life in a body that they love. Some things I encourage people to do when working towards a challenge are:

  •         Do it with a buddy – hold each other accountable!
  •         Write down your goal for the challenge – it makes it more real!
  •         When you get unmotivated, think about why you decided to commit to the challenge in the first place!

Featured Revolve Riders: The Workout Wonks

“A pair of fitness geeks in our nation’s capital”, the Workout Wonks (otherwise known as Lexie and Kristine) have taken over the D.C fitness scene one workout at a time.  As co-workers and co-bloggers, Lexie and Kristine love to work and workout together.

You two went from co-workers to co-bloggers. What prompted the creation of the Workout Wonks?

Workout Wonks came about very organically. We both enjoyed trying new workouts and just wanted an outlet to express ourselves. We expected our only readers to be co-workers, friends and family members.

Thanks to the awesome Washingtonian article “9 DC Fitness Bloggers to Read Now“, things have really taken off! We’re having a blast and love seeing the blog grow. A special shoutout goes to the readers as well as our favorite fitness studios (Revolve is at the top of the list!) that have encouraged us along the way.

How are your workout styles different?

We do very different things. Kristine is obsessed with indoor cycling and Lexie is a yoga fanatic, but we aren’t married to one location or activity. Kristine tests out indoor cycling classes all over the DMV, while Lexie just joined a gym and started working with a personal trainer.

Kristine uses workouts to relieve stress from her day job and help maintain a work-life balance. For Lexie, exercise is more about habit and journey. Starting with yoga and through teacher training, physical activity has now become an integral part of daily life.

Who pushes the other?

We act as each other’s pseudo-life coach. Pushing each other isn’t just about workouts. It’s also about encouraging healthy life choices, whether it’s walking to a meeting instead of taking a cab, or eating a salad for lunch rather than something less healthy.

Why does working out together motivate you?

It holds us accountable. It’s hard to skip a workout when you’ve made plans to meet someone there. There’s also a social aspect to exercising together. We chat and catch up before and after class, and have now found ourselves part of a great fitness community in DC.

Tell us about your post-workout ritual. Be honest, do you refuel with something healthy, or indulge a little?

Food and shopping. South Block in Clarendon has delicious smoothies as does Protein Bar in Ballston. We’re itching for the new location to open just around the corner from our office!

We’re usually sipping on a delicious, often green, smoothie as we stroll through shops. Unfortunately for fellow shoppers, we often don’t smell lovely, but working out makes you feel hot! And a new outfit never hurt.

How do you keep up with your workout dates together?

Because of our job, we’re always bouncing around town. Morning meetings and evening events often force us to work out as individuals. We plan in advance and make our fitness goals a priority. We’re big fans of calendar invites, and honor them as we would any other meeting.

Featured Revolve Rider: Paul Fishman

Meet one of our first die-hard Revolve Riders, Paul Fishman.  He sat down to share his Revolve love story, advice to new riders and more!

Before and After Paul Fishman

What’s your Revolve love story?  How did it happen?

I joined Revolve on opening day. I was super nervous; I had been pretty negligent of all physical activity before Revolve came into my life. I was overweight, miserable and lacking motivation, and I pretty much had an anxiety attack when I was setting up Bike 31.

The second Kristin Kenney walked in, my mood instantly changed and something clicked. Although I thought I was going to die from that first ride (I pretty much drowned in my own sweat), I found myself coming back every day to get my daily dose of endorphins. It wasn’t long before I was riding in the front row (Bike 17, you have my heart). Revolve was home, a place that I felt welcomed, safe and inspired.

How has Revolve helped you Rethink, Reshape and Revive your life?

Revolve helped me see that with the right environment and support system I could accomplish anything. Three months later, almost 70 rides at Revolve and close to 30 pounds lost – I could not be happier!  My love for Revolve has even blossomed into my trademark hashtag on Twitter: #frontroworDIE. Believe me, if you haven’t ridden in the front then you haven’t lived! Revolve has not only been a place for me to workout, but a place where I feel a part of something.

What’s your advice for other Revolve Riders who are searching for that break-through?

Set realistic goals you can achieve and celebrate your milestones wholeheartedly. Give yourself the permission to be 100% committed to your reason for getting on that bike! I also think it’s important to connect with the instructors. Believe me, they probably want your success just as much or even more than you do. Say hi, friend them on Facebook or follow them on Twitter. The thrill of having them call out your name in class is pretty awesome!

Pro tip for newbies?

My number one tip is to try every single instructor at least once. The beauty of Revolve is that even though the core of their rides are the same, each instructor has different ways of getting results. Don’t neglect your water bottle and pay attention when the instructor talks about form. The way you ride determines how good a workout you get and will keep you from getting injured!

What are your favorite songs to get your cycle on to?
I am all about a dirty hip hop beat – I love that feeling of wanting to move to the beat! Anything by Ludacris or Missy Elliot kicks my heart rate into high gear.  I tend to request songs with ridiculously fast RPMs.

If you haven’t run into Paul in the studio yet, you probably will soon! When Paul isn’t cycling at Revolve, he works in luxury retail, blogs, and participates in other fitness activities and songwriting. You can hear more about Paul’s life and his #revolvelove by following his blog at www.mixtapeluxury.com or on Twitter . #frontroworDIE
